PC

A lot of times people stumble over their words when they are referring to Brady or people with Down Syndrome. So I thought I would do a quick PC lesson to help you understand what is PC and what is not, but first please understand that I am not an expert and very few of you have ever said anything to offend us. We are new to this just like you.

PC- "Brady is a baby with Down Syndrome."
Not - "Brady is a Down Syndrome baby."

A subtle word change, but it reiterates that Brady is not defined by this syndrome, but a condition with which he was born.

PC- Down
Not- Downs

It's just one Down.

PC- Different ability or very abled
Not-Slow, mentally retarded, handicapped or disabled

You would be surprised how many people still use these words. Before Brady I wouldn't think anything about throwing the "R" word around as a multi use adjective, but now my perspective has changed.

If you ever have a question please don't be afraid to ask.
